In April 1926, Elgar came to London to conduct a concert of his own music in the Queen's Hall. The programme included many early works which the Gramophone Company was eager to re-record using the new electrical process. This week, Malcolm Ruthven introduces one of these first electric recordings, the Enigma Variations.
