with Inspiral Carpets in session (R)
R1: With a new album, Life, out next week, cult heroes the Inspiral Carpets are just about to undertake their biggest English tour to date. The group's first five singles, released on their own Mooing Cow label, all reached the top of the indie chart. Now signed to independent Mute Records, their latest single, This Is How It Feels, has remained in the network chart for weeks. The sound? Uptempo and melodic, led by the swirling Hammond organ. Catch this top Mancunian band on John Peel's show tonight (8.30pm)
