With the departure of Holland, Dozier and Holland, the scene was set for the brilliant Norman Whitfield to make a bigger splash at Motown. As a writer and producer he brought a new reality to the company's output and took The Temptations, in particular, on to new heights. At the same time Motown was enlivened by the Jackson 5, whose first three records went to number one in quick succession.
