The Story of Motown

Introduced by Stuart Grundy

There was only one American record label which not only weathered the 'British invasion' of the mid-60s, but grew stronger in its presence, and that was Motown. The legendary songwriting and production team of Holland, Dozier and Holland was enjoying its greatest success in the years 1964 to 1966, and company confidence was accordingly high. Every record released by The Supremes seemed destined for number one in the American charts, but Motown boasted strength in depth with The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, The Miracles, The Temptations and Junior Walker also becoming consistent hitmakers.
