He was born in south-east London in 1951 - his name Steven Nice. As a child he spent the major part of five years in hospital with polio but later, at the age of 16, to become an all-England swimming champion.
With a mother who was a jazz singer he could hardly avoid being influenced by music: his own speciality for six years was classical violin.
But the violin was exchanged for a guitar and piano, the young man turned into Steve Harley and with his band Cockney Rebel, formed in 1973, he found success in the rock world.
In recent years he has been living in Los Angeles pursuing a solo career and is currently visiting England. Tonight he joins Kid Jensen to review the week's new records.
