Join John Holmes on BBC Radio Nottingham. John came to Nottingham as a Mining Engineering student and stayed.

He met his wife, Kate, in The Salutation, whilst she was working as a nurse at Mapperley Hospital. They married and now have an expanding family of three grown-up children and four granddaughters - he is working towards a netball team. 

John first broadcast on BBC Radio Nottingham in April 1970. 

He was particularly fortunate to find himself at BBC Radio Nottingham as a sports reporter in the halcyon days of the late 1970s when Forest were winning European Cups under Clough and Taylor; Rice and Hadlee were playing for Nottinghamshire Cricket Club and Torvil And Dean were conquering the world with their ice dance. 

He went on to front the legendary Saturday Rock Music show 'Extravaganza' and present Radio Nottingham's Mid-Morning, Afternoon and Breakfast shows. 

Life at the BBC

In 2009 John celebrated 40 years with the BBC. His career began at the home of British radio, Broadcasting House in London, working alongside household names like Sam Costa, Victor Sylvester, Humphrey Lyttelton and Status Quo. He also did a spell in Birmingham on spot effects for The Archers. 

He worked in Bristol where he produced Down Your Way, Any Questions and, alongside Jonathan Dimbleby, launched Any Answers as a phone-in. He also had a satisfying spell working in the world famous Natural History Unit. 

His TV work began on 'Look! Hear!' a youth show with Toyah Wilcox. He also presented one of the BBC's first consumer series; BBC2's Inside Information. 

Life in Nottingham

John now presents the Sunday Mid-morning Show on BBC Radio Nottingham and is often rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous. 

But he is keen to stress that his average day is not all glamour. 

He is a founder and Chairman of the skin cancer charity, SKCIN.

Join Paul Robey on BBC Radio Nottingham. Born in Clifton, Paul attended Greencroft Junior School and Fairham Comprehensive School.

When realising that he wanted to become a radio presenter, his careers' teacher suggested he apply for jobs in insurance or banking. 

He followed this "sensible" advice, ending up at the Prudential on Maid Marian Way for eight years. 

He also had a Saturday job and one of Paul's claims to fame is being the first lad ever to work on the checkouts in the Victoria Centre branch of Tesco. 

At the same time, he was actively pursuing opportunities in radio and developing his craft on a voluntary basis at Nottingham Hospitals' Radio, based in the newly opened Queen's Medical Centre. 

He eventually got his professional break at Radio Trent in 1982 working alongside Dale Winton, but had always harboured a secret desire to work at Nottingham's truly local station. 

Not many people know that Paul shares a guilty pleasure with Anne Davies from East Midlands Today... the first single they ever bought was "Puppy Love" by Donny Osmond.

Join Jo Davies on BBC Radio Nottingham. Jo started off volunteering at Kings Mill Hospital Radio.

She thinks there is still a scary picture of her up on the wall in their studios in what she thought was a trendy denim shirt. 

It was at Kings Mill that she fell in love with chatting to people, finding out about them and being part of a team that could tell them what was happening in the world. She loved being able to choose the music too.

Her life at Radio Nottingham began with volunteering for Alan Clifford, helping set up guests for his programme. 

That is where her love of live theatre really took off. One of her first on air experiences was reviewing local theatre productions on Alan's show. 

She is the celebrity booker for the station, from Torvill and Dean to Liza Minelli, and admits she adores meeting rich and famous people. 

She also loves musical theatre. Les Miserables is her favourite production.

Kaval Vaseer

Kaval Vaseer brings you music, features and news for the Asian community.

Born in Liverpool, Kaval emigrated to India at the age of three with his family.

Kaval returned to the UK in the early eighties to study for his higher education. 

He joined BBC Radio Nottingham in 1989 to launch Dhamaka, our specialist programme aimed at younger listeners from the Asian community. 

Away from the microphone Kaval's day job is as a management trainer for one of our local authorities. 

A family man, married to Nina, he has a daughter, Priya.
