Kathy and Kenton have a lovely time visiting the Christmas markets in Vienna and have great fun trying out all the different foods on offer. But Kathy draws the line at going on Santa's miniature railway. When Kathy laughs at something Kenton says, Kenton fondly tells her it's been ages since he's heard her laugh like that.

Ruth and David are surprised when Shula turns up unexpectedly at Brookfield saying she just had to get out of the house - Alistair's dad is driving her up the wall. Now Alistair's built him a ramp, Jim's in and out of the house all day and following her around. Daniel thinks he's wonderful, mainly because Jim subverts Shula's authority all the time. Ruth offers to have Jim round for supper one evening; it might be easier to deal with him when Shula has other people to back her up.

Adam visits Brookfield to see if David and Ruth would be interested in becoming partners in the anaerobic digester project - they could provide some animal wastes. They think it's a great idea but will need a couple of days to mull over finances.

CARERS
The value of unpaid support provided by carers has now reached 87 billion pounds a year –  more than the total annual spend on the NHS. Many carers find themselves isolated and unsupported, practically, financially and emotionally. 
Gordon Brown’s new, national strategy for carers, due for publication next Spring, is to address some of these major concerns. Carers and the organisations that represent them have been taking part in a huge consultation exercise, making their views known.
Raj Persaud spoke to Jane Harris, Head of Campaigns for the national mental health charity,Rethink.Georgie Wakefield spoke about her experiences of caring for her son.

IN TOUCH WITH ART
Last week the Victoria and Albert Museum in London hosted an international conference – In Touch with Art - on the teaching and appreciation of art for the visually impaired. It was organised by the national charity, St Dunstan’s, in partnership with Goldsmiths College.
As well as reviewing the best ways to interpret and teach art for a visually impaired audience, delegates also learned about psychological processing and cognition through the different senses. 
Reporter, Mani Djazmi, went along to the conference where he spoke to: Linda Pring, Professor of Psychology at Goldsmiths College; and Dr. Alison Eardley of the University of Westminster.

Pat and Tony don't share Adam's enthusiasm for an anaerobic digestion plant because it contradicts their basic principles of farming the land for food, not fuel. Realising he's not winning them over, Adam hopes they'll reserve judgement. Pat resents people throwing themselves into schemes without thinking through the consequences. Tony's miffed that Adam thinks he might talk them round and worried that Tom might agree to such a scheme without thinking through the implications.

Matt's application to develop an old engineering site into 200 housing units has been approved. Lilian thinks it calls for a celebration and Matt agrees but Lilian overhears him arranging to celebrate over lunch with Annabelle. 

Annabelle shares Matt's enthusiasm. With her expertise in development law, Matt's keen to get her on board for his next plan to develop an old asylum site into executive housing. Annabelle assures him she can get the results but she doesn't come cheap. 

Lilian's out riding to keep calm. She tells Tony and Pat that Matt turned her down in preference to Annabelle. Although he claims he wouldn't like to get stuck in a lift with Annabelle, he clearly has no objections to a tête à tête over lunch at the Feathers.

In this week’s Frontiers, Andrew Luck-Baker goes to NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Centre to report on preparations for the fourth - and final - Servicing Mission to the Hubble Space Telescope. 

Since its launch in 1990, Hubble has revolutionised our understanding of deep space and the universe. Its high quality images have captured the imagination of the world. 

But the telescope is beginning to show its age, and NASA has announced an ambitious Servicing Mission to refurbish and upgrade Hubble. 

As well as replacing batteries and gyroscopes, the astronauts will repair two instruments that have stopped working. 

The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) failed in 2004. The spectrograph separates light into its component colours. This allows scientists to examine a distant planet’s temperature, chemical composition, density and motion. 

The Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) stopped working in 2007. The ACS is a wide field camera and is able to conduct broad surveys of the universe. A million second exposure on this camera produced the Hubble Ultra Deep Field Image, NASA's deepest view of the cosmos. 

The astronauts will also install two new instruments. A more powerful wide field camera, Wide Field Camera 3, will carry out wide field imaging across the whole spectral range, from ultraviolet to infrared. A new spectrograph, the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS), will improve Hubble's sensitivity to the spectrum.

Andrew talks to two crew members who will be part of the mission. Scott Altman will command the space shuttle. John Grunsfeld, an astronaut and astronomer, will be one of the space walkers. Both men have visited Hubble on previous servicing missions. 

Andrew also talks to ex-astronaut Jeff Hoffmann and members of the support team at the Goddard Space Flight Centre. 

The mission is scheduled for August 7, 2008.
