The State of Africa
9.00pm R4 Julian Pettifer examines the uneasy bedfellows of politics and conservation tonight as he travels through Africa. The moral dilemmas are tricky: could you tell a desperate man that he cannot kill a rare bird that will feed his starving family? Should we be attempting to persuade African governments to save animals when their people are impoverished? If we want to share a glorious global wildlife, it seems we're going to have to pay for it.
