When Jack leaves Joan after less than a year of marriage, she is determined to harden her heart against any other romantic involvement. But then she meets Finbar and he grabs her attention by spouting Shakespeare on the neighbours' patio on New Year's Eve.

Gradually, and despite her better judgement, she finds herself drawn by his flamboyancy, his talent and his handsome appearance.

Fighting off the attentions of a teacher colleague in-between Finbar's unpredictable visits, Joan is finally won over when she hears Finbar admit on a chat show that there is a "significant other" in his life, a certain west London school teacher. However, Joan is about to discover just how blind love can be...
