The Gaiety Girls and their Friends
Musical comedy was invented by George Edwardes at the Gaiety. Shows by him and in his tradition reflected Edwardian England at its most tuneful and elegant. Here is a tribute to shows in which young ladies sang and danced gracefully, spoke the King's English - and bowed off the stage into aristocratic matrimony.

The blockade and siege of Leningrad by the Germans from 1941 to 1942 created almost inhuman suffering and loss of life to the city's inhabitants. In their journals three women writers kept a record of this ordeal by hunger, cold and disease which few people in the West know about. During these days the famous 'Leningrad Symphony' was also written and this, too, echoed the terrible events.
