Joe Clark is a Quaker who in 1958 gave up his job in Hong Kong to return to Britain for training as an artificial limb maker. After some further years in Hong Kong, he was asked to go to Vietnam: and in July last year he set up an amputee centre at Quang Ngai, a town that has been and is the scene of heavy fighting.
