The three chefs are halfway through their heat, and the competition couldn’t be tighter. Again, they each serve up their own interpretation of the brief to honour British invention and innovation.
For their main courses, one chef is showcasing fallow deer in their dish celebrating the invention of cats eyes, while another pays homage to the imposing Humber Bridge with a dish that draws on the best ingredients to be found in the counties at either end of the bridge’s span: Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. The final chef is paying tribute to a miners’ lamp that saved many lives in the pits of the North East of England with a dish centred around mutton. Whose inventiveness in the kitchen will veteran judge Simon Rogan rate the highest?
Only two will proceed to Friday’s judging and have a chance to represent the North East, Yorkshire and the Humber at the regional finals. Show less
