In the remote village of Konchet, in the Kingdom of Zanskar, families live in the same way as their Tibetan ancestors more than 1,000 years ago. One of their two kings comes from a line that has ruled from the time of the Norman Conquest. The tales told by Tsultrim's grandmother span five generations. This is a medieval world where dogs turn into spirits at night, and bears and wolves are as much part of the landscape as the fleas and the lice.
