Midnight Movie: The Sea Wolf

on BBC Two England

starring Edward G. Robinson Ida Lupino , John Garfield
When a ferry-boat is rammed by the mystery ship The Ghost, only two of its passengers are taken on board - Ruth, an escaped convict, and Humphrey van Weyden, a novelist. They join a crew terrorised by ' Wolf ' Larsen, the sadistic captain of the ship. Larsen's main victims are the new arrivals and the cabin boy, Leach. In a desperate attempt at survival, all three determine to escape the private version of ' hell ' that the tyrannical captain has created on board The Ghost. Edward G. Robinson gives one of his most remarkable performances as Larsen, the self-educated egotist whose obsessions and cruelty can only end in disaster.
Screenplay by ROBERT ROSSEN from the novel by JACK LONDON Produced by HENRY BLANKE Directed by MICHAEL CURTIZ
