This week the painter Marc Chagall celebrated his 90th birthday.
In this film, made seven years ago, he is shown working in his studio at St Paul de Vence, near Nice. He talks about his past, present and future, surrounded by several million pounds' worth of paintings from his private collection.
The film covers the entire range of his art, from his youth in Russia to his spiritual visions of today. It tells the story of a man Who has lived through two world wars and a revolution, and who has never lost his unique talent for expressing the feelings of the heart in images of great poetic power.
