Architecture at the Crossroads

on BBC Two England

Ten films about contemporary architecture 9: Berlin: A City for People
It took eight years to create Berlin's mammoth
International Building
Exhibition of 1987, with a cast list of contributors that reads like a Who's Who of contemporary architecture. Its focus was on social housing within the modern inner city. The venue for the exhibition was the city itself, real houses and building complexes, already inhabited, and designed to demonstrate how the city can once again become a place fit for people. The Berlin schemes could well become prototypes for the rest of the world, building with people rather than merely for them. Narrator Andrew Sachs
