Rabbits -
Wanted Dead or Alive?
Narrator JULIAN PETTIFER
Love them or hate them, few people fail to be fascinated by the rabbit. Fewer still know of its strange habits and extraordinary history.
Brought to Britain by the Normans as a valued source of meat and fur, it came to be loathed by farmers. Introduced to Australia for sport, it caused a major ecological disaster. Faced with direct competition from the tremendously successful rabbit, man resorted to the ultimate weapon - biological warfare - with myxomatosis.
What of the rabbit now? Has it changed its habits to combat myxomatosis and is the disease less deadly? Can there ever be room for man and the rabbit?
