The Price of Freedom

on BBC Two England

Most of us assume basic human rights such as freedom of speech, belonging to political parties and joining trade unions. But all over the world people are being harassed, imprisoned, tortured, exiled and even killed for such things.
Ten years ago yesterday Russian tanks invaded Prague and in this special programme John Tusa introduces a prominent Czechoslovak dissident speaking on film smuggled out of the country last month. Karel Kyncl is a journalist and a signatory of the Human Rights Manifesto ' Charter 77'. He was arrested in 1972 and was imprisoned for nearly two years.
