Westerns, Red River tells the story of Thomas Dunson, a snung-willed and hot-tempered pioneer, and his decision to embark on an unprecedented cattle drive from Texas to Abilene,
Kansas. Dunson's single-minded and ruthless obsession brings him into conflict with his adopted son, Matthew Garth, sole survivor of an Indian massacre many years before.
John Wayne stars in one of his toughest roles as the determined Dunson, and Montgomery Clift plays the rebellious foster son in a tale of drama and action across the great plains of America.
