Sir Ralph Richardson: Acting is partly dreaming

on BBC Two England

Ralph Richardson is 70 this year. As an actor he continues to triumph in the theatre, most recently in "Home" and "West of Suez". Off stage he is a wonderful raconteur and a sharp observer of life, as all his performances suggest.
In this informal portrait, filmed in Bognor where Sir Ralph goes for holidays, and in his own home, he talked to Patrick Garland about his strange childhood by the sea, early days in the theatre, his love of literature and painting, and the wide-ranging interests and hobbies which all contribute to the personality and achievement of this great actor.
