Tonight's programme recalls the life and times of Al Bowlly, first 'superstar' in the history of British popular music, and re-creates moments from his career, in a musical interpretation by Stuart Damon of some of the songs that Al Bowlly made famous.

Linking these scenes, interviews with some of Al Bowlly's friends, fans, and fellow-musicians: Roy Fox, Ray Noble, Nat Gonella, Tiny Winters, Joe Crossman, Monia Liter, Sid Colin, Joyce Stone, Hilda Dawes and Lillian Dawes.
