Lindisfarne
Off the Northumbrian coast lies an island with a history as colourful as any corner of Britain. Here the first Vikings found a refuge from the North Sea storms and a staging post for the mainland.
Following the same route, every year countless flocks of wildfowl have invaded ancient Lindisfarne in search of food and shelter on their way south.
As winter approaches Angela Rippon is joined there by ornithologist Roger Lovegrove who, with David O'Connor , warden of the island's nature reserve, keeps watch on the birds and seals, and by Bernard Price , who looks at the island's special pattern of life which for centuries has been governed by the tides.
