A community of the future - puritan, superstitious, inward-looking - confined within The Ship. They have been there for generations, and have long forgotten whatever purpose put them there. They worship meaningless symbols with elaborate ritual. They know that one day they will feel a tremor in the ship, but only one young man has inherited the secret of what must be done when the tremor comes.
