Janice Baildon is-seemingly-a typical teenage girl, living at home and working in a routine job. But here the ' everyday' qualities cease, since Janice is a schizophrenic, driven beyond breaking point by her insensitive parents and social pressures. Ken Loach 's moving portrait of Janice and her ' family life' is widely regarded as one of the most important socially-based fiction films of the decade.
