More from the Musical Mariner
David Fanshawe , music collector and composer, is off again. Tonight, he wanders among the paradise islands of Tahiti in search of the traditional music of the South Seas. Here, he finds music which is hip-swaying and seductive - a distinct change from the primitive rhythms and ululations he recorded in New Guinea in last week's film.
To end his long Pacific odyssey - he's been travelling for nearly ten years - David flies to one of the most isolated specks on earth: Easter Island. Here the songs are different again: part South Seas, part Spanish ... 'I must record them all before they're gone, before it is too late.'
