on BBC Two England

The Men Who Made The Movies
This week BBC2 highlights the work of one of Hollywood's great-directors. HOWARD HAWKS'S special gift is for stories about groups of men overcoming danger and hardship, whether cowboys, racing drivers, airplane pilots or lawmen. In this programme, made for American television, the 79-year-old veteran director, regarded by many as John Ford 's only equal as a maker of action movies, reminisces about some of his most famous films. With excerpts from Dawn Patrol, The Crowd Roars, Twentieth Century, Only Angels Have Wings, His Girl Friday, Air Force, The Big Sleep, To Have and Have Not, Red River, Rio Bravo and Hatari.
