Film International: Stroszek

on BBC Two England

Starring Bruno S, Eva Mattes, Clemens Scheitz.
Werner Herzog's most recent film starring his natural acting 'discovery' Bruno S, is almost the story of Bruno's own life, set against the bleak plains of Wisconsin.
A man is released from Berlin prison. His effects are returned to him and the governor gives him a lecture on the evils of drink. Once in the street, Bruno makes straight for his favourite bar. There he sees Eva, a prostitute, roughly treated by a group of pimps. Impulsively, Bruno offers Eva the shelter of his flat, an offer which is to have momentous consequences for them both.
Written and directed by Werner Herzog.
