Live coverage of the opening round in the four-day World
Match Play championship at the Wentworth Club in Surrey.
As the tournament enters its
41st year, defending champion Ernie Els of South Africa has the chance to become the only six-times winner of the event. But world number one
Vijay Singh and Major winners Retief Goosen and Todd Hamilton are among those barring his path.
The tournament features four knockout rounds staged over 36 holes, whittling down the 12 challengers to one overall winner. This morning, the eight unseeded players in the draw began their quest for the title over the West Course.
