Six films about living music 5: A New Paintbrush and a Different Palette
Colour has always been important to the musical creator. The deep hues of a string orchestra, or the warm tones of woodwind. But only since the war, with magnetic tape and micro-electronics, have composers used colour alone. Tim Souster is one of Britain's foremost electronic composers. His range has been wide, from working with Stockhausen to creating the score for Hitchhiker's Guide. With a group from England's youth orchestras Souster explores the new sound palette of electronic music.
