The epic story of the 16th-century Cossack chieftain, Taras Bulba , who fights at the side of Prince Grigory, the Polish leader, in the battle to drive the Turks out of the Ukraine.
In the years of uneasy alliance that follow, Taras Bulba 's two sons grow to manhood. But one of them, Andrei, falls in love with the daughter of a Polish nobleman, and eventually sides with the Poles against his own father. The tragedy that follows provides a fitting climax to this spectacular and exciting film.
