Built in 1841, St. Chad's was the first Roman Catholic Cathedral to be consecrated since the Reformation. The grimy factories which for 150 years surrounded the Cathedral have now vanished, and it now stands at the heart of the new Birmingham rising around it, a link between the new and the old.
