Marie Macdonald has a new electricity meter. She ought to be very pleased with it - it works on a card instead of 50p pieces, so it won't get broken in to as her old one was - twice. But Marie is in debt to the Electricity Board. The meter knows this, so it won't give her any power for cooking, heating or lighting until she's repaid her week's debt - at a rate she says she cannot afford.
Michael Robinson investigates the power behind the new debt-collecting technology, and the struggle to keep the meter fed.
