Tommy Smith

on BBC Two England

Jazz Types
Third of six programmes.
Tommy had been merely an admirer of pop music until he started to play with one of Scotland's most powerful and eclectic pop bands. Hue and Cry. Tommy writes a song with the band and together they perform a Thelonious
Monk standard in a symbolic meeting of jazz and pop. He also presents and plays with the John Rae Collective, a young Scottish jazz band gaining a reputation for uncompromising hard bop. Designer LAIN MCDONALD Sound MICK WILD
