Horizon: The Wages of Science

on BBC Two England

Introduced by Christopher Chataway.

The survival of Britain as an industrial power depends of science and on scientists. But are our scientists paid enough to attract them Into the right jobs? Or are they so frustrated by niggling money troubles that they eventually abandon science altogether, or emigrate to the U.S.A. where a physicist, here paid £1,400 a year, can earn £3,000?
These are some of the questions that scientists at many income level discuss in tonight's programme.
