War and Peace

on BBC Two England

Live from the Kirov Opera, Leningrad, this unique
Anglo-Soviet collaboration presents Sergei Prokofiev 's epic in a new production by Graham Vick to mark the centenary of the composer's birth. The opera is based on Tolstoy's novel and combines the vast panorama of Russian society as it faces Napoleon's invasion with the love story of Prince Andrei Bolkonsky and the young Natasha Rostova. Presented by Robert Lloyd , who scored a personal triumph when he sang Boris Godunov at the Kirov last year.
