Gay on the Cape

on BBC Two England

4/5. Mark and Cengey, a gay couple from Cape Town in South Africa, have overcome poverty and a violent upbringing to escape the ghettos where they were born. On the occasion of their wedding, World Weddings explores the battleground between conservatives and liberals on the subject of gay marriages. With no official recognition of same-sex unions, the couple arrange an unofficial ceremony, sanctioned by a gay-friendly church. But despite a post-apartheid constitution that bans discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation, homophobia still haunts the new South Africa.
