James Naughtie and Stephanie Hughes introduce events as the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, reopens with an evening of dance and opera in the presence of the Queen.
Conductor Bernard Haitink and singers Placido Domingo and Deborah Polaski join the Royal Opera Chorus and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House for a programme that features the overture to Weber's Oberon, Wagner's Die Walkure, and the final scene of Beethoven's Fidelio.
There's also a special Royal Ballet performance showing the company's achievements since 1946 at the Royal
