The World About Us

on BBC Two England

The Magical Indian Roadshow
Singers, dancers, actors, mimics, storytellers, acrobats, conjurers, puppeteers, snake-charmers. These are the people who bring entertainment to the village squares of India, giving a touch of magic to the remotest hamlet and the poorest peasant family.
The entertainers spend their lives on the move, carrying most of their possessions with them. This film follows them from village to village and even to the Maharajah's palace. It shows their lives on the road and also their attempts to attract a new audience in the cities - often against enormous odds. Narrator JAMILA MASSEY
