In the small American town of Union, Blaine Lovejoy, self-appointed guardian of the citizen band radio, is at a crucial point in his life. He is trying to leave his eccentric father, make up with his old girlfriend Pam, stop maniacs hogging the radio channels and operate an emergency rescue service. When he helps out stranded trucker Harold Rissley, a chain of hilarious events begins with one linking factor - the citizens band that creates its own 'community of the air'.
