The XV Olympic Winter Games live from Calgary
Opening Ceremony The traditional lighting of the Olympic flame heralds the start of 16 days of competition for the finest winter sportsmen and women in the world.
A record 59 nations have gathered in Calgary and the Canadian Rockies. More than 2,600 athletes and officials will take part. The most spectacular moments of the games - the men's downhill, the ice hockey and figure skating championships, and the fearless descents of the ski jumpers and bobsleigh teams - will be seen on BBCtv. Exclusive coverage begins with today's Opening Ceremony in the McMahon
