Since the American Civil War, thousands of American soldiers have deserted from the United States Army. Several were condemned to death but only one was executed: Pte Eddie Slovik. This film traces Slovik's life from his time in a Michigan reformatory for minor offences until his execution in 1945 in a small town in France.
