Speed McBride, a respected man in St Louis, loves his wife Connie dearly but is too absent minded to remember her birthday. When her old flame Gordon appears on the scene, a jealous Speed takes to the bottle and accidentally contrives to be thought dead. With his wife in danger of remarrying Gordon, Speed decides to masquerade as a ghost and save her from a terrible fate...
