1: Mississippi, 1933. Bound together by their family love, the Logans face the hardships of being both black and poor at the height of the Depression. The daughter, Cassie, tells the story of a family, who learned to 'hold on to what we had -and what we had was the land'.
Based on the novel by MILDRED D. TAYLOR the films depict the Logans' struggle for their property and their resistance against the intimidating Wallace, the town's bigoted store-owner.
