A selection of cartoons by the famous war-time caricaturist Captain Bruce Bairnsfather.

Forty-nine years ago Bruce Bairnsfather was born in India. He served in France from November 1914 to December 1916. During that time he saw enough of trench life to appreciate the Cockney genius for creative humour in the face of danger. In word and sketch he delighted the world with his portrayals of Tommy Atkins at home and at the front. Today his work is just as popular as it was when 'Old Bill' gave his celebrated advice about the merits of a certain 'Better 'Ole'.
