Two ballets by Jiri Kylian Torso and L 'Enfant et les sortilèges performed by members of the Netherlands Dance Theatre with Jiri Kylian talking about his ballets.
Ten years separate these two dance works, now seen for the first time on television, during which Kylian, artistic director of the Netherlands Dance Theatre, has established himself as one of the greatest creators of dance of his generation.
Torso, to music by TORU TAKEMITSU , is about exile,
Kylians's own experience as a young man. But this ballet is about a couple in transit and their feelings of dislocation and nostalgia for their homeland.
L 'Enfant et les sortilèges is the magical world of childhood evoked by RAVEL'S setting of a fantasy by COLETTE. 'The bewitched child' is usually performed as a one-act opera. Kylian keeps the score and the sung lyrics, but sets the whole action free by using dancers rather than singers. Torso directed by TORBJORN EHRNVALL
