The Lively Arts - In Performance

on BBC Two England

Robin Ray introduces the Dance Theatre of Harlem

Founded nine years ago by the outstanding New York City Ballet soloist Arthur Mitchell, the Dance Theatre of Harlem is the world's first all-black classical ballet company. Their success has been phenomenal and worldwide, including two sell-out seasons in this country and appearances in the Royal Command Performance.

This programme includes documentary sequences with the company and excerpts from five works in their wide repertoire, ranging from the exotic, with Dougla or Forces of Rhythm, to the more Classical, with Balanchine's Bugaku, Arthur Mitchell's Holberg Suite.
