World Cinema: Les Carabiniers

on BBC Two England

The second in a season of films by this unique and controversial director - Jean-Luc Godard
Starring Marino Mase, Albert Juross

Two peasant brothers, summoned by their King, go off to fight in a great war. They murder and pillage to their heart's content, sending home postcards to their womenfolk telling of their enjoyable experiences.
In this ironic fable Godard looks at the utter futility and stupidity of war and at its brutalising effect on the men who fight.
