An Open Door programme made by the Jubilee 77 Association of Blackbird Leys
Oxford conjures an instant image of dreaming spires and punts on the river. But on the other side of the city by-pass is the other image -Blackbird Leys, a huge estate deprived of amenities. It was the street parties for the Queen's Jubilee which gave rise to an idea: a community association which would look after its own, especially the young, sick and elderly. All this, and more, has happened - largely through the energies of the Association's founder and leading light, Cath Walters. .. Keep pushing' is her motto. ' Just get it into your head that you want something done - and do it!'
