The New Middle Ages

on BBC Two England

Is the 21st century going to be just like the 14th? Instead of the future predicted by science-fiction - a state-controlled, technologically sophisticated world - will the reality be political instability and a complete breakdown of law and order? Other predictions are not so grim. This Late Show film argues that the effect of new technology may be to free people from the need to congregate in cities to work. If we are rushing headlong back to the Middle Ages, then perhaps our contributions may become creative centres of ideas and invention.
