Twenty-five year old Bob Elkin has two older lovers-Daniel, a homosexual doctor and Alex, a divorced business consultant in her mid-30s. Inevitably the emotional strain is great for all of them and one weekend Bob decides to bring matters to a head.
John Schlesinger 's highly-praised film is considered by many to be his most sensitive and important, treating a complex story with insight and compassion. Both Finch and Jackson give outstanding performances as the two lovers, painfully accepting the situation out of a combination of loneliness and quiet desperation.
